Plants and animals naturally incorporate both the abundant C-12 isotope and the much rarer radiocarbon isotope into their tissues in about the same proportions as the two occur in the atmosphere during their lifetimes. When a creature dies, it ceases to consume more radiocarbon while the C-14 already in its body continues to decay back into nitrogen.Collins English Dictionary - Complete & Unabridged 2012 Digital Edition © William Collins Sons & Co. Celebration time 11 August London-based artist Sonya Dyer curates the exhibition ‘50 Years Leeds West Indian Carnival’, which is opening tomorrow at The Tetley in Leeds. This group, working with the fundamental study groups, research prosthe tists, and amputee subjects, has designed improved prosthetic devices, developed mechanical aids to fitting and alignment, and assisted in the application of well known principles of engineering mechanics to the problems of fitting and aligning lower extremity prostheses. As correlation of the results of the various fundamental study groups progressed, and as the engineering design group developed improved devices, it became increasingly apparent that, in order to make their results useful to the members of the medical profession and to prosthetists serving amputees, a program of amputee application was indicated. For almost a dozen years the University of California has been active in prosthetics research.
Since that time, telescopes have become central to astronomy.

In his capacity as a local press photographer, Counts documented the desegregation of Little Rock High School over two years as nine African American students (known as the Little Rock Nine) attempted, and eventually succeeded, to attend the school.
Community is an integral part of the celebrations and as such, the exhibition features mementos and artifacts donated by the public.
